Reservations

Reservations are normally confirmed up to a year in advance. Please "call in" your reservation directly with the EWC Housing Office, or contact the UMI Conference Coordinator for assistance. An advance deposit of one night's stay is required to confirm the reservation. This is waived if a Mastercard or VISA account is provided. A cancellation charge equal to one night's rent will be charged if a cancellation occurs less that 72 hours prior to the scheduled arrival date.

Check In and Out

The Lincoln Hall reception desk is open from 7:30 AM to 9:30 PM. After hours check-in is handled at Hale Manoa which is open 24 hours. Check in time at Lincoln Hall is 2:00 PM and check out is 10:00 AM. Please check with EWC Housing Office for exceptions.

Payment

Visitors are required to pay for their room charges upon check in. Mastercard, VISA, traveler's cheques, and personal checks (in US dollars) are accepted. Personal checks must be payable to the East-West Center and for the exact amount only. Third party checks are not accepted.

Unit Description

The UMI has a small block of STUDIO rooms reserved at US$42 per night. Each room has cable TV, telephone service, private bathroom facilities, bedding (most often a double bed), linen, and towels. Rooms are cleaned Monday through Friday, and there is one elevator that services Lincoln Hall. Please be advised that rooms are not air conditioned and that hotel-type services such as porters, room service, etc. are not available. Coin operated washers and dryers are available for guest use.

Food

Mariott Education Services operates cafeterias throughout the University of Hawai'i campus. Their Paradise Palms Cafe is across the street from Lincoln Hall, and other outlets are within a 5 to 10 minutes stroll of the East-West Center campus.

Access and Parking

There are no airport shuttles to the EWC. Taxi service can bring you to campus within 20 minutes and provide you transportation anywhere you will need to go on the island. If you rent a car, an EWC/UH parking pass can be purchased for US$3 per day. Arrangements for a parking pass must be made with the UMI conference coordinaotr well in advance of your arrival.

The Ala Moana Hotel boasts attractive accommodations and is the most convenient location in Honolulu to over 200 shops and restaurants, beautiful Ala Moana Beach Park, and to all the visitor attractions around the island. Participants of the UMI has been extended an exceptional rate of only US$$95 + taxes per night for single or double accommodations. There is no charge for children under 18 (occupying same room with parent(s) unless additional bedding is requested). Check in is 3:00 PM and check out is 12 Noon. To guarantee a reservation at this rate, arrangements must be made by December 20, 1999. Airport shuttles are available for a fee, and parking within the hotel is US$9 per day.

Please note: If you stay at the Ala Moana Hotel and will drive to the East-West Center for the UMI sessions, University of Hawai'i/East-West Center parking passes at US$4 per day can be arranged for you. Requests for these passes need to done well in advance of your arrival.
